I've been waiting since December to share this one with you. We went up to Seattle to be with family for Christmas. At our first dinner with my parents, sister and brother-in-law, we found this at my husband's place setting.

Inside the scroll was a note in Harry Potter-esque font, telling G that he and a Muggle friend would be treated to admission to Harry Potter: The Exhibition. LOL. If you've somehow managed to avoid the phenomenon that is Harry Potter, the students of Hogwarts get their mail delivered to them by owls.

Predictably, I freaked out. This is the best gift wrapping I've seen since this feat of ingenuity. What an amazing way to wrap a non-material gift!

My sister made this papier-mache hawk for an elementary school unit on birds of prey. Amazingly (or not so amazingly, since items with sentimental value tend to be kept by one of our parents (who shall remain nameless)), she found it in her old room and brought it out for the occasion. I'm giggling just thinking about it. I mean, look at it. It looks like it was written with a wizard's quill. My sister even found a candle and sealed it with red wax. Love is in the details, baby.

I'll be back on Friday with a fabulous free printable for the Harry Potter fan in your life. Until then, I'd welcome your reactions to my sister's gift wrapping idea!

  1. That's amazing!! So creative. And how was the exhibit?!

  2. Jessica - Isn't it? The exhibit was fun, though definitely for hardcore HP enthusiasts. It had props and costumes from the movies mixed in with trivia. (I liked the costumes the best.) The end of the exhibit opened into a large gift shop, which I thought was kind of tacky...but I guess there's a market for Griffyndor coffee mugs and ties.
    : )

  3. this is awesome--and hilarious that this hawk survived all these years for this moment of glory. :)

  4. @Won - This was indeed a moment of glory for this bird of prey. Kind of makes it hard to take a hard stance against decluttering!

  5. oh my gosh, shawna is amazing. this is a truly awesome and horrifying presentation.

  6. @Lexie - What do you mean, horrifying? Oh wait - it's the gold button eyes, isn't it?
    ; )
