Bows on Bags | 5 Minute Upgrade

This series was born when a friend requested quick ways to make a gift look nice before running out the door. Find more fast gift wrapping ideas here.

Could it get any simpler? Add a bow to a plain gift bag for a striking embellishment.

I asked Erica of The Polka Dot Umbrella if she uses tape to secure the ribbons, and she said no. She just ties the bows tightly enough so they stay put. I love this idea for adding a personal touch to the convenient (yet ubiquitous) gift bag.

  1. What a great idea -- and I love the patterns used as tissue paper too!

    1. Glad you like it! I've used many a kraft gift bag in my day but never thought to decorate it like this.

  2. I absolutely love this idea. I'd tuck a bit of double-sided tape behind the bag to hold the ribbon in place though. I'm always trying to come up with new ideas to decorate plain shopping bags. I almost always from the "note card" and replace it with an embellished hand made gift tag. I also replace the handles with a nice ribbon, but this idea adds a lot of look for so little. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Mimi, so good to hear from you! I'm glad you liked this idea too. It's such an 'ah-ha!' gift wrapping idea - I've tied ribbons around the handles of gift bags but this looks so much cooler.
