Outgifted (or, Gifts from Japan)

I posted quite some time ago about the gifts we took with us on our trip to Japan. I knew we would be the recipients of lots of hospitality and I wanted to go bearing gifts from America! Needless to say, we were outgifted by our hosts, who gave N his own set of gifts as well as a bundle of prettily-packaged presents for G and me.

Some of my favorites were these awesome textiles. I don't know the Japanese name for them, but they were folded and stitched so you could flip through the 'pages' like a book. When you snipped the red threads, each unfolded into a single rectangle. I've since sewn them into cloth napkins so we can enjoy them at the dinner table.

    1. I know! I don't even know their intended purpose, but they were such beautiful and useful gifts to receive.
