Simple Gifts

I've been thinking lately about simple gifts, which often make me just as happy (if not happier) than elaborate ones. My high school friend C brought us fresh bay leaves from her boyfriend's yard after we forgot to take some home the other night. It gave me a small thrill to refill our empty little spice jar.

I read something on a new-to-me blog that reminded me of this simple gift:
When we grow, make, or share things, we're giving an intimate gift. And it doesn't have to be perfectly wrapped or presented like Pinterest would have us believe. If you make a batch of cookies, take 2 over to your neighbor on a napkin. If you bought a huge brick of cheese at Costco, cut off a chunk for your friend. -Sarah Murphy-Kangas, In Praise of Leftovers
Have you grown, made or shared something lately? Or maybe received a simple gift that made you happy? I'd love to hear.
